Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants? Medford, OR
Candidates of dental implants includes anyone who is missing one or more teeth. The decisive factor is the amount of useable bone. Our dentists at Rogue Valley Dental Center will evaluate whether dental implants are a viable solution for you.
Does Age Effect Dental Implants?
Some of our older patients have expressed concern that their age may prevent them from enjoying the benefits of dental implants. What we tell them is that health is more of a determining factor than age. If you're healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, you're probably healthy enough to receive dental implants. Certain chronic diseases may contraindicate dental implant treatment. Our dental team at Rogue Valley Dental Center will determine if you are a candidate for dental implants after a careful evaluation of your dental and health history. If you are medically fit to participate in a general oral surgical procedure, then you are a candidate for dental implant surgery.
Who Should Carefully Consider Dental Implants?
If you have medical or other conditions that may interfere with the healing process of either their bones or soft tissues (e.g., connective tissue disorders, steroid therapy, bone infections, cigarette smoking) must carefully evaluate, with your dentist, the potential risks and benefits of using dental implants.
Precautions for Implant Treatment
Dental implants require sufficient bone mass in order for the process of osseointegration to occur. We do not recommend implants for patients with inadequate amounts of bone which allows for placement of implants. If a patient is missing bone mass in their jaw, we may be able to perform a bone graft prior to dental implant placement.
Mechanical failures may occur if dental implants are insufficient in size or number to support their biomechanical loads, or are not properly positioned. To reduce the risk of overload or fatigue failure, dentists must place the implants and design prosthetics to accommodate the physical or medical conditions of their patients, such as bruxism (i.e., grinding or clenching of teeth) or unfavorable jaw relationships.
