What Are the Different Types of Dentures?

What Are the Different Types of Dentures?Dentures have been used for centuries as a way to replace missing teeth. There are many different types of dentures, each with advantages and features. Here, we will discuss the most common types of dentures: complete dentures, overdentures, immediate dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures.

Complete Dentures

These are also called complete dentures, used when all teeth in a patient's mouth must be replaced. A complete denture rests on the gums and is held in place by suction or a unique adhesive. These dentures can be taken out and cleaned as needed.

Partial Dentures

If you're missing some teeth, partial dentures are an option. The dentures fill in the spaces left by your missing teeth and are often held in place by clasps that attach to your natural teeth. These are made of metal or acrylic and can be removed for cleaning.

Implant-Supported Dentures

If you have enough jawbone to support implants, this type of denture may be an option. The dental implants are attached to the jawbone and act as dentures' anchors. These dentures are usually more expensive than other types, but they're also more stable and can last longer. Implant-supported dentures are available in two different types. The first type is called "bar-retained." A metal bar is attached to the implants, and dentures snap onto the bar. The second type is called "ball-retained." These dentures have attachments that fit into sockets on the implants.

Overdentures

These are the most famous kind of dentures. They are also known as "snap-in" dentures. They are used when there are still some natural teeth remaining. Natural teeth are used as anchors for the denture. This type of denture is more stable than a complete denture and is easier to keep in place.

Our dental clinic offers different types of dentures to our patients, depending on their needs. The most common type is the complete denture, which replaces all teeth in the upper or lower jaw. We also offer partial dentures, which replace just a few missing teeth.
