Posted on 10/11/2021 by Evan
What Does Soda Do To Your Teeth? You should hesitate and think about the harms soda has on your teeth before opening another bottle or can of your favorite soda. . You should know that sugars present in all sodas and soft drinks form an acid after interacting with bacteria present in your mouth. The acid formed starts to attack your teeth. The acid present in your mouth, plus the acids in the sodas start to damage your teeth for some minutes. Therefore, if you drink soda all day, your teeth are under attack most of the time. Below are the two main issues soda causes to your teeth.

Tooth Enamel Erosion

When you drink soda, the formation of acid occurs after the interaction of the soda and bacteria which weakens your tooth enamel. The tooth enamel is a thin outermost layer of your tooth. It protects your teeth when you chew, bite and grind. Therefore, when your tooth enamel erodes, you expose your sensitive dentine layer. Your tooth becomes susceptible to some dental issues such as gum disease and tooth decay. You are also likely to have sensitivity issues and frequent pain in your teeth. You have to take erosion seriously since your tooth enamel does not grow back.

Dental Cavities

Soda is among the top causes of dental cavities. Soda causes cavities in various ways. First, it begins by weakening the tooth enamel. Its sugars and acids facilitate the immense growth of bacteria in your mouth. It is hard for most people to quit the habit of drinking soda. However, you can do few things that can minimize the damage soda causes to your teeth.

Ensure that if you must drink soda, you drink it in moderation. You should have at most one drink daily. While you are drinking your soda, use a straw and drink it quickly because you have to reduce the time you expose your teeth to sugars and acids.
