Cavities in Your Front Teeth Should Get Composite Fillings

Cavities on your front teeth are never fun. They can be dark and uncomfortable; they can even take attention away from what you are trying to say. So, a lot of people have begun to consider the best way to treat these cavities. We've found that the best-looking way, and the least invasive way, to treat these front teeth cavities is by giving them composite fillings.
Unlike traditional metal fillings like gold or silver, composite fillings are made from a mixture of resins and plastics. They are the same shade of color as your tooth, and they are the first choice for many dentists (us included). Because composite fillings are moldable, they can be shaped into a large variety of situations, from fixing cavities to fixing chipped teeth. Further, they bond directly to the tooth itself, so there is less natural tooth lost throughout the process. They are a fantastic option for those of us who need fillings but cannot stand the look and feel of the traditional methods.
Other Options vs. Composite Fillings
Some other options for fixing the cavity in a front tooth are filling it with a metal filling, getting a veneer placed over that tooth, or having it extracted and replaced with a non-natural tooth. Extractions are a last resort, so unless the tooth is falling out of your mouth or rotting away the teeth around it, it would be best to avoid that option. There are a lot of people who want veneers, however. Veneers fit over the top of the teeth and cover the problems, giving a great smile. The problem with veneers is that they can crack or fall out. Composite fillings cannot. They are bonded to the teeth, and thus they are a better option, especially for the front teeth. To find out more, give us a call today.
