Hydrochloric acid is bad news for your wedding ring, but lemons and oranges contain citric acid which is used to preserve many types of food. Acids can benefit us as well as cause damage.
Acids Can Cause Damage to Your Teeth
Unfortunately, too much acid from food and drinks can cause damage to your teeth. These acids cause the tooth enamel to wear away. You will probably feel it before you know it. As your enamel erodes it exposes your nerves. Although, it is not uncommon for your teeth to become discolored as a result of the lack of shiny white enamel. Acids can be harmful to your teeth.
You may be surprised to know which foods contain acid. Oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes are citrus fruits which contain acids. Pickles, cranberries, and tomato-based products also contain acid. Acidic beverages include wine and coffee. Do not stop eating these foods, but instead, drink water when you eat them. This will help to wash the acids off the enamel on your teeth. You may also want to eat foods that are low in acidity at the same meal to balance your pH. Include melons, apples, and bananas in your fruit salad along with citrus fruits. In addition, add vegetables to your meal as well as whole grains.
