Eating a Wide Variety of Produce Gives Your Teeth Needed NutrientsApart from brushing and flossing, you also need to supply your teeth with the necessary nutrients to keep them healthy. The American Dental Association (ADA) suggests that you should have healthy eating patterns for better oral health. A good diet will keep your teeth healthy and prevent oral infections like tooth decay. One way of supplying your teeth with sufficient nutrients is by eating a wide variety of produce.

The Benefits of Eating Produce

Eating fruits, cereals, and whole grains with low sugars can benefit your mouth immensely. Vegetables and fruits are highly recommended because chewing watery, coarse, firm, and fibrous foods will help stimulate the production of saliva. Saliva helps wash away leftover food particles. Fruits and vegetables are also rich in nutrients that help keep your teeth strong. Some fruits also stimulate alkalinity, neutralizing the potentially acidic conditions in your mouth. Acids are dangerous to your teeth because they wear down the enamel that protects them against bacteria. This exposes the underlying dentin, causing tooth sensitivity and dental cavities.

Furthermore, vegetables provide minerals and vitamins that help fight off potential infections. These nutrients also keep your enamel stronger. Leafy greens like chard, spinach, kale, and collard are also full of minerals but low on calories. Eating a wide range of such foods will equip your body with a wide of nutrients that benefit your teeth immensely. Apart from sufficient nutrient supply, mixing produce will also keep your teeth clean.

Calcium, one of the most important nutrients to your teeth, can also be acquired from some foods. Fruits like apples produce plenty of such nutrients, making them very beneficial. However, keep in mind that some fruits can be acidic, posing a risk to your oral health. Visit our offices for more information on the benefits of eating a wide range of produce.
